Module Description

This module allows learners to become familiar with various energy management strategies. It allows learners to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and competences to assess, evaluate and investigate issues related to energy management.

Entry Requirements

Students should be at least 18 years+ and in possession of a minimum MQF Level 5 Undergraduate Diploma in Facilities Management

AND

Be in possession of one of the following:

(a) Grade 5 in English (Matsec Certificate)
IELTs 6.0
Or an equivalent qualification.

Audience

This course is targeted at:

individuals aspiring to work as a facility and operation managers
individuals who wish to advance their education and gain in depth knowledge and skills related to facilities or operation management.
individuals already working in the field related to facilities or operation management and would like to obtain qualification in this sector.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to:

Monitor and analyse policies related to energy management, energy efficiency and climate change
Ensure effective energy management and energy efficiency
Comply with regulations in relation to energy management and efficiency

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the following skills:

Report and discuss knowledge in relation to climate change and energy management
Demonstrate awareness and knowledge of various economic tools that can be used for energy such as auditing and energy accounting
Use knowledge acquired on national and international policies for energy efficiency and management purposes
Exhibit understanding of the law of thermodynamics
Discuss the need for effective design of energy systems in building services and facilities management
Identify links between energy management and ecological principles

Assessment

This module shall be assessed through the use of an assignment whereby learners are asked to answer a question, not exceeding 1500 – 2000 words (100%). Learners must obtain a minimum of 50% of the total mark in order to successfully pass from the module. In the case that learners do not pass on the first try, learners can re-sit the assessment. In the case of recurring failure, learners shall be asked to re-do the module.
