Module Description

This module introduces learners to understand the basic elements of construction and structures by applying different steps and processes that relate to the construction industry. It will allow the trainees to understand the different stakeholders involved in designing structures and foundations. In addition, it will also allow learners to understand the fundamental role that involves construction elements and practices

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to:

  1. Understand the elements of construction such as equipment, faults and defects, weather element conditions and property materials
  2. Discuss ideas and improvements on workmanship based on better communication skills and understand ones’ responsibilities
  3. Identify equipment and deal with repairs
  4. Highlight the key issues related to foundations and structures
  5. Discuss the core points that one might find in the project documentations and procedures
  6. Overcome challenges in foundations and structures

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the following skills:

  1. Demonstrate understanding of the importance of construction elements such as equipment, faults and defects, weather conditions and property materials
  2. Practise effective procurement tasks and ideas to improve the construction industry
  3. Use different processes and procedures for effective repairs and adequate equipment identification
  4. Participate in discussions with team members, superiors and top management to discuss key issues related to foundations and structures
  5. Prepare a draft project report according to the requirements of the service required, under the supervision of a superior
  6. Practise effective problem solving techniques to overcome challenges during a construction project

Assessment

This module shall be assessed through face-to-face 30-45 minute interviews.

Learners must obtain a minimum of 50% of the total mark in order to successfully pass from the module. If learners do not pass on the first try, they are given another attempt at the interview. Should the learner fail again, they will be required to re-do the course
