Module Description

This module allows learners to understand how facilities management is adapted in different industries such as retail, sports, hospitality, building and construction, healthcare, public sector, manufacturing, education, and other industries. Learners will therefore be exposed and will get an overview of the different approaches to facilities management.

Students should be in possession of a minimum School Leaving Certificate
AND
Be in possession of one of the following:

  • Grade 5 in English (Matsec Certificate)
  • IELTs 6.0
  • Or an equivalent qualification

Audience

This course is targeted at:

  • individuals aspiring to work as a managers related to facilities and operation management
  • individuals who wish to advance their education and gain in depth knowledge and skills related to facilities and operation management
  • individuals already working in the field related to facilities and operation management and would like to obtain qualification in this sector. 

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to:

  • Monitor trends and contemporary issues in facilities management related to different industries and sectors
  • Be responsible for the identification of the most preferred facilities management specialisation to undertake further studies

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the following skills: 

  • Examine the use facilities management in sporting facilities such as maintenance, scheduling, space planning and others and discuss how it impacts the overall success of a sporting venue
  • Assess the integration of facilities management in hospitality such as maintenance, room planning and management etc, and identify how it impacts the overall quality and customer satisfaction levels
  • Examine and examplify the need for facilities management in manufacting by outlining the importance of planning and managing when it comes to plants, factories, heavy equipment and other materials and tools used in manufacturing 
  • Evaluate the importance of facilities management in the world of banking and finance, due to the diverse locations, as well as different departments 
  • Assess the role that facilities management plays in government and public administration
  • Identify the importance that facilities management hold in retail services 

Assessment

This module shall be assessed through the use of an assignment whereby learners are asked to answer a question, not exceeding 1000 words (100%). Learners must obtain a minimum of 50% of the total mark in order to successfully pass from the module. In the case that learners do not pass on the first try, learners can re-sit the assessment. In the case of recurring failure, learners shall be asked to re-do the module.
