Module Description

Heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigiration are a crucial part of facilities management. To this end, this module allows learners to understand the various systems related to HVACR and to manage and overlook the performance being generated by these systems whilst managing a facility

 

Entry Requirements

Students should be at least 18 years+ and in possession of a minimum MQF Level 5 Undergraduate Diploma in Facilities Management

AND

Be in possession of one of the following:

  • (a) Grade 5 in English (Matsec Certificate)
  • IELTs 6.0
  • Or an equivalent qualification.

 

Audience

This course is targeted at:

  • individuals aspiring to work as a managers related to facilities and operation management
  • individuals who wish to advance their education and gain in depth knowledge and skills related to facilities and operation management
  • individuals already working in the field related to facilities and operation management and would like to obtain qualification in this sector. 

 

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to:

  • Deal with the mechanical service team dealing with HVACR
  • Monitor the performance of the mechanical service team and the HVACR systems installed at the facility
  • Produce effective, clear and understandable reporting related to HVACR systems
  • Carry out effective risk assessments related to HVACR
  • Comply with the Health and Safety regulations governing construction and building services

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the following skills: 

  • Demonstrate understanding of the safety protocols that a facilities manager should take into consideration when dealing with HVACR systems
  • Discuss the role of HVACR in regulating humidity and temperature in a facility
  • Show understanding of the importance of having high performing and accurate HVACR systems in a building
  • Work safely and handle equipment in a safe manner

 

Assessment

This module shall be assessed through the use of an assignment whereby learners are asked to answer a question, not exceeding 1500 – 2000 words (100%). Learners must obtain a minimum of 50% of the total mark in order to successfully pass from the module. In the case that learners do not pass on the first try, learners can re-sit the assessment. In the case of recurring failure, learners shall be asked to re-do the module.
