Module Description

This module allows learners to understand the definitions as well as the need for corporate social responsibility and sustainability within the field of facilities management. Moreover, learners shall also be exposed to the importance of effective management of energy resources, as well as alternative resources of energy which are more sustainable and environmentally friendly. Learners shall lastly understand how the organisation’s practices affect the overall external environment within which it operates through sustainable practices and corporate social responsibility.

Entry Requirements

Students should be in possession of a minimum School Leaving Certificate MQF Level 3

AND

License of real estate manager

AND/OR

Be in possession of one of the following:

(a) Secondary Education Certificate in English as issued by Matsec at grade 5 or higher.”

(b) Or IELTs 6.0

(c) Or an equivalent qualification.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to:

  1. Comply with the overall CSR and sustainability policy of the organisation as well as with the main legislations and laws governing sustainability and CSR
  2. Ensure the enforcement of sustainable practices when carrying out own work
  3. Monitor potential changes or new legislations governing CSR and sustainability

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the following skills:

  1. Explain and discuss the role of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability in organisations and real estate.
  2. Identify various preventive risks that can be implemented in sustainable real estate under supervision of real estate manager.
  3. Effectively report any situations of situations which might cause any sort of impact such as environmental impact at the place of work
  4. Show understanding of the different legislations and regulations which govern sustainability and CSR in organisations and real estate such as the Climate Change Act
  5. Discuss the importance of remaining in compliance with the organisation’s overall corporate social responsibility and sustainability policy
  6. Show understanding of the importance of implementing sustainable procurement and ethical procurement practices at the place of work
  7. Identify how ineffective management of energy can lead to a decrease in performance of the overall organisation and increased costs
  8. Identify the importance of ‘reputational risk’
  9. Discuss how alternative resources of energy can assist organisaitons in their CSR and sustainability plans

Assessment

This module shall be assessed by way of an assignment, not exceeding 4000 words. Learners must obtain a minimum of 50% of the total mark in order to successfully pass from the module. In the case that learners do not pass on the first try, learners can re-sit the examination. In the case of recurring failure, learners shall be asked to re-do the module.
