Course Description

This course is intended at those who are aspiring to work in construction industry as a labourers or trades but do not have basic communication skills to work with the team during work. This course is a combination of basic technical words in construction and health & safety awareness. The students need to succeed in this area where it contains topics that reflect the latest developments in the field related to OHSA & HSE making it immediately relevant to students’ needs.

Entry Requirements

Students must be over the age of 16 years and have a clean police conduct (not older than 2 months) and ID card or passport. They must have work experience in construction industry and produce Jobsplus employment registration i.e company occupation.

Audience

This programme allow learners to understand their role and responsibility in ensuring a healthy and safe working environment within the construction industry. Moreover, it shall allow them to gain understanding of the role that health and safety plays on the overall success of construction project, how to minimise risks and overcome health and safety challenges through effective reporting.

Career Paths

Through the successful completion of this programme, learners will be able to:

  1. Deal with basic health and safety requirements and management skills practiced at the construction industry.
  2. Comply with the health and safety legislation and other emerging rules and regulations governing the construction industry at the workplace within the industry.
  3. Plan for and create effective measurements to ensure effective prioritisation for the workers in relationship to construction works.
  4. Create effective health and safety reports outlining tasks and requirements within construction workplace.
  5. Gain communication techniques required for ensure health and safe work environment within construction industry.

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the following skills:

  1. Create an effective task for project deliverables in compliance with health and safety, and other relevant legislations and regulations.
  2. Demonstrate understanding of the need to be compliant with various rules and regulations related to health and safety when dealing with construction industry.
  3. Apply the most appropriate ways of implementing prioritisation safety on site.
  4. Demonstrate understanding of waste disposal and colour codes used in such instances.
  5. Prepare relevant documentation covering incident reports.
  6. Store various documentation related to health and safety guidelines and traffic control measurements.
  7. Communicate with the required techniques for ensure health and safe work environment.

MODULES

Assessment

This module shall be assessed through face-to-face 30-45minutes assessment whereby learners are asked to answer a number of questions during the interview.   

Learners must obtain a minimum of 50% of the total mark in order to successfully pass from the module. In the case that learners do not pass on the first try, learners can re-sit the interview. In the case of recurring failure, learners shall be asked to re-do the course.
