Module Description

This module allows learners to gain understanding of the facilities management profession. It will give them an overview of the fundamental role and responsibilities of the facilities manager. Learners shall also be exposed to the common practices included in facilities management, irrespective of whether these are hospitality, sports, or any other type of facility.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements
Students should be in possession of a minimum School Leaving Certificate
AND
Be in possession of one of the following:

  • Grade 5 in English (Matsec Certificate)
  • IELTs 6.0
  • Or an equivalent qualification.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to:

  • Carry out tasks in Facilities Management as required at the facility in an effective andefficient manner
  • Deal with the requirements of energy management to ensure reduction of costs and to achieve CSR within Facilities Management
  • Create plans under supervision of facilities manager for effective space planning and management
  • Be responsible and monitor compliance with Health and Safety laws governing FacilitiesManagement and Building Services
  • Comply with the health and safety requirements when working within the field of FacilitiesManagement
  • Ensure the provision of effective customer service when dealing with clients in FacilitiesManagement

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the following skills:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the role of facilities manager as well as the responsibilities andchallenges found within the profession
  • Show how facilities management affects and how it is integrated with the organisationoverall
  • Identify the need to effectively manage property and leases
  • Prepare effective plans for space management under direction of the facilities manager
  • Plan according the requirements of and under the direction of the facilities manager withregard to effective energy management
  • Practice and provide customer-centred services to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Show knowledge of health and safety regulations, laws and practices which should beimplemented at the workplace to ensure a safe working environment

  • individuals who wish to advance their education and gain in depth basic knowledge and skillsrelated to facilities management.
  • individuals already working in the field related to facilities management and would like toobtain qualification in this sector.

Learning Outcomes

Assessment

This module shall be assessed through the use of a multiple-choice examination whereby learners are asked to answer a number of questions by choosing the correct answer (100%). Learners must obtain a minimum of 50% of the total mark to successfully pass from the module. In the case that learners do not pass on the first try, learners can re-sit the examination. In the case of recurring failure, learners shall be asked to re-do the module.
