Module Description

This module introduces learners to the basic principles of building maintenance as part of effective facilities management. It will allow them to gain understanding of the skills required to deliver the maintenance as well as the role of the facilities management in the overall delivery of maintenance.

Entry Requirements

Students should be in possession of a minimum School Leaving Certificate
AND
Be in possession of one of the following:

  • Grade 5 in English (Matsec Certificate)
  • IELTs 6.0
  • Or an equivalent qualification

 

Audience

This course is targeted at:

  • individuals aspiring to work as a facility and operation managers
  • individuals who wish to advance their education and gain in depth knowledge and skills related to facilities management.
  • individuals already working in the field related to facilities management and would like to obtain qualification in this sector.

 

 

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to:

  • Deal with maintenance requirements and management at the place of work
  • Comply with the health and safety and other rules and regulations governing maintenance at the place of work
  • Plan for, and create effective schedules to ensure effective prioritisation of maintenance requirements
  • Create effective maintenance reports outlining tasks and requirements

 

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the following skills:

  • Create an effective task action plan in relation to maintenance management to ensure effective prioritisation of tasks
  • Demonstrate understanding of the need to be compliant with various rules and regulations related to health and safety when dealing with maintenance
  • Apply the most appropriate maintenance technique depending on the needs of the task at hand
  • Prepare relevant documentation covering maintenance tasks and plans
  • Store various documentation, schedules, and other reports in an effective manner related to maintenance management

 

 

Assessment

This module shall be assessed through the use of an assignment whereby learners are asked to answer a question, not exceeding 1000 words (100%). Learners must obtain a minimum of 50% of the total mark in order to successfully pass from the module. In the case that learners do not pass on the first try, learners can re-sit the assessment. In the case of recurring failure, learners shall be asked to re-do the module.
