Module Description

This module introduces learners to procurement and the different steps and processes that go into procurement. It will allow them to understand the different stakeholders involved in procurement. It will allow learners to understand the fundamental role that procurement plays in the overall success of a facility.

Students should be in possession of a minimum School Leaving Certificate
AND
Be in possession of one of the following:

  • Grade 5 in English (Matsec Certificate)
  • IELTs 6.0
  • Or an equivalent qualification

Audience

This course is targeted at:

  • individuals aspiring to work as a facility, operation managers, or procurement managers
  • individuals who wish to advance their education and gain in depth knowledge and skills
    related to facilities management and procurement management.
  • individuals already working in the field related to facilities management or procurement
    management and would like to obtain qualification in this sector.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to:

  • Collaborate with the different stakeholders involved in procurement, including the customer, any third party provider, and others to ensure a smooth process 
  • Comply with the laws and regulations governing supply and procurement within organisations 
  • Request quotations depending on the procurement services required and choose according to the needs and the budgetary requirements of the facilities 
  • Create effective service agreements under supervision of top management or superiors
  • Carry out effective decision making by collaborating with team members and management team 
  • Overcome challenges in procurement 

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the following skills: 

  • Demonstrate understanding of the importance of having a smooth running procurement department within facilities management to ensure that supplies and services are delivered as required
  • Practice effective procurement tasks remaining in compliance with the rules and regulations governing procurement 
  • Use different processes related to procurement such as service agreements, tenders, request for quotations 
  • Participate in discussions with team members, superiors and top management to ensure the effective choice of service provider in procurement 
  • Prepare a draft for a service agreement according to the requirements of the service required, and under supervision of a superior
  • Practice effective problem solving techniques to overcome challenges in procurement

Assessment

This module shall be assessed through the use of an assignment whereby learners are asked to answer a question, not exceeding 1000 words (100%). Learners must obtain a minimum of 50% of the total mark in order to successfully pass from the module. In the case that learners do not pass on the first try, learners can re-sit the assessment. In the case of recurring failure, learners shall be asked to re-do the module.
