Module Description

This module allows learners to become knowledgeable and skilful within the area of space planning and allocation with specific reference to facilities management. Learners will be able to identify various trends and challenges, requirements of spaces, as well as considerations that must be taken into consideration prior to the implementation of changes to spaces.

Students should be in possession of a minimum School Leaving Certificate
AND
Be in possession of one of the following:

  • Grade 5 in English (Matsec Certificate)
  • IELTs 6.0
  • Or an equivalent qualification

Audience

This course is targeted at:

  • individuals aspiring to work as a facility and operation managers
  • individuals who wish to advance their education and gain in depth knowledge and skills related to facilities management.
  • individuals already working in the field related to facilities management and would like to obtain qualification in this sector. 

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to:

  • Comply with the legislations, regulations and health and safety when preparing for space planning and management
  • Collaborate with facilities management team members and facilities manage to effectively space planning and management 
  • Carry out effective space planning in line with the facilities management team using available information technology equipment and platforms to enhance such planning 
  • Deal with potential challenges that might arise in space planning 

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the following skills: 

  • Prepare for space planning taking into consideration factors such as access routes to the space, exit routes from the space, ventilation, lighting, and others in collaboration with facilities management team
  • Plan in collaboration with the facilities management team and the facilities manager for effective space planning by considering the number of occuptants per space, any apertures available, any environmental required, the need for circulation, any IT and building requirements and others
  • Demonstrate how effective space planning affect the overall customer service in facilities 
  • Use information technology available for the implementation of effective space planning 
  • Communicate with team members and facilities manager making use of the most appropriate and effective communication methods and channels
  • Identify and discuss the current trends and challenges in space planning and management

 

Assessment

This module shall be assessed through the use of an assignment whereby learners are asked to answer a question, not exceeding 1000 words (100%). Learners must obtain a minimum of 50% of the total mark in order to successfully pass from the module. In the case that learners do not pass on the first try, learners can re-sit the assessment. In the case of recurring failure, learners shall be asked to re-do the module.
