Module Description

This module allows learners to become knowledgeable and skilful within the area of space planning and allocation with specific reference to real estate. Learners will be able to identify various trends and challenges, requirements of spaces, as well as considerations that must be taken into consideration prior to the implementation of changes to spaces.

Entry Requirements

Students should be in possession of a minimum School Leaving Certificate MQF Level 3

AND

License of real estate manager

AND/OR

Be in possession of one of the following:

(a) Secondary Education Certificate in English as issued by Matsec at grade 5 or higher.”

(b) Or IELTs 6.0

(c) Or an equivalent qualification.

Audience

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to:

  1. Comply with the legislations, regulations and health and safety when preparing for space planning and management
  2. Collaborate with facilities management team members and facilities manage to effectively space planning and management
  3. Carry out effective space planning in line with the facilities management team using available information technology equipment and platforms to enhance such planning
  4. Deal with potential challenges that might arise in space planning

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the following skills:

  1. Prepare for space planning taking into consideration factors such as access routes to the space, exit routes from the space, ventilation, lighting, and others in collaboration with real estate team
  2. Plan in collaboration with the real estate team and the facilities manager for effective space planning by considering the number of occuptants per space, any apertures available, any environmental required, the need for circulation, any IT and building requirements and others
  3. Demonstrate how effective space planning affect the overall customer service in real estate
  4. Use information technology available for the implementation of effective space planning
  5. Communicate with team members and real estate making use of the most appropriate and effective communication methods and channels
  6. Identify and discuss the current trends and challenges in space planning and management

Assessment

This module shall be assessed by way of an assignment, not exceeding 4000 words. Learners must obtain a minimum of 50% of the total mark in order to successfully pass from the module. In the case that learners do not pass on the first try, learners can re-sit the examination. In the case of recurring failure, learners shall be asked to re-do the module.
