Module Description

This module allows learners to gain understanding of the construction industry from implementation to finishes. It will provide them with a better understanding of the fundamental roles and responsibilities in the construction industry.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to:

  1. Describe trades, skills and training
  2. Talk about trade materials
  3. Give and understand basic instructions for erecting scaffolding
  4. Understand the basic operational skills when delivering heavy equipment
  5. Describe the basics of how crane and control units work
  6. Give basic verbal instructions for operating equipment
  7. Understand cement mixing and mixtures

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the following skills:

  1. Explain trades and different trades training
  2. Identify various materials used in the construction industry
  3. Effectively understand and conduct basic calculation such as measuring sand’s weight
  4. Understand how to operate and manage the delivery of heavy machinery.
  5. Understand the basics of crane and control units operations
  6. Identify different equipment
  7. Identify the importance of knowing how to mix cement

Assessment

This module shall be assessed through face-to-face 30-45 minute interviews.

Learners must obtain a minimum of 50% of the total mark in order to successfully pass from the module. If learners do not pass on the first try, they are given another attempt at the interview. Should the learner fail again, they will be required to re-do the course
