Module Description

This module shall allow learners to understand their role and responsibility in ensuring a healthy and safe working environment within facilities management. Moreover, it shall allow them to gain understanding of the role that health and safety plays on the overall success of facilities management, how to minimise risks and overcome health and safety challenges through effective reporting.

Students should be in possession of a minimum School Leaving Certificate
AND
Be in possession of one of the following:

  • Grade 5 in English (Matsec Certificate)
  • IELTs 6.0
  • Or an equivalent qualification

Audience

This course is targeted at:

  • individuals aspiring to work as a facility and operation managers or health and safety officers.
  • individuals who wish to advance their education and gain in depth knowledge and skills related to facilities management and H&S management.
  • individuals already working in the field related to facilities management or H&S management and would like to obtain qualification in this sector.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to:

  • Ensure compliance with roles and responsibilities with regards to health and safety at the place of work
  • Produce effective reports outlining health and safety hazards at the place of work providing effective, transparent, and accurate information
  • Ensure the outsourcing of warranted health and safety officers should there be the need
  • Comply with existing workplace policies, legislations and regulations related to health and safety
  • Monitor health and safety performance under guidance of top management/superiors

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the following skills:

  • Demonstrate understanding of own responsibilities and personal role in ensuring health and safe practice at the place of work
  • Use legislations, laws and organisational policies as a guiding tool to ensure health and safety practices as an employee at the place of work
  • Practice effective health and safety performance monitoring under supervision of top management/superior
  • Identify any health and safety risks or hazards which might be present at the place of work
  • Report an incident or emergency at the place of work, using the appropriate documentation, providing accurate and transparent information and outlining the location, scope and nature of the incident to top management/superiors

Assessment

This module shall be assessed through the use of a multiple-choice examination whereby learners are asked to answer a number of questions by choosing the correct answer (100%). Learners must obtain a minimum of 50% of the total mark in order to successfully pass from the module. In the case that learners do not pass on the first try, learners can re-sit the examination. In the case of recurring failure, learners shall be asked to re-do the module.
