Module Description

This module allows learners to get acquainted with the best practices of managing waste within facilities management. Learners will be able to understand the different classifications of waste and handling different types of waste. Learners will also become familiar with the legislation governing waste management.

Entry Requirements

Students should be at least 18 years+ and in possession of a minimum MQF Level 5 Undergraduate Diploma in Facilities Management

AND

Be in possession of one of the following:

(a) Grade 5 in English (Matsec Certificate)
IELTs 6.0
Or an equivalent qualification.

This course is targeted at:

individuals aspiring to work as a facility and operation managers
individuals who wish to advance their education and gain in depth knowledge and skills related to facilities or operation management.
individuals already working in the field related to facilities or operation management and would like to obtain qualification in this sector.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to:

Carry out effective waste audits to assess the quantity, process, and waste management practices within a facility
Deal with handle and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous waste
Be responsible for effective waste segregation
Comply with the relevant waste regulations and legislations

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the following skills:

Demonstrate understanding of waste management options available for facilities managers
Manage waste in an effective manner and discuss the potential consequences of mismanagement of waste
Use the classifications of waste to effectively handle and manage waste in facilities management
Practice effective waste segregation and management systems within facilities

Assessment

This module shall be assessed through the use of a 2 hour examination whereby learners shall be assessed on the learning outcomes included in this module. In the case that learners do not pass on the first try, learners can re-sit the assessment. In the case of recurring failure, learners shall be asked to re-do the module.
